Description:

GERMAN JUDICIAL GENERAL'S PEAKED CAP, IDENTIFIED
Excessively rare identified German Judicial General's Peaked Visor Cap, in nearly new condition. The cap bears identification placing it once in the hands of DR. ERNST KANTER, Nazi Judge-General and Chief Justice in Nazi-occupied Denmark. This incredible Erel piece has a top-quality 'feldgrau' body with forest green sideband, piped in purple at top and on either side of the sideband indicating the owner's affiliation with the Nazi/Wehrmacht judicial system. A gold-washed aluminum cap badge is affixed at front, just above brilliantly gold-washed oak leaves and Erel vented cockade. Gold wire chin cords are secured on either side by gold pebbled buttons, all in fine condition. The black visor is fine, secured firmly to the cap, and shows the expected raised cross-hatching on the underside. Within, the cap bears a fine brown leather perforated sweatband with Erel's distinctive gold imprint completely intact. The yellow-beige lining is untouched, as is the celluloid sweat protector covering Erel's 'Sonder Classe Extra' maker's mark. The name of the owner, 'Dr. Ernst Kanter', appears written in blue ink on a slip inserted under the celluloid in the slot so provided. No moth or other damage appears anywhere on this fantastic piece, which is in mint condition. Dr. ERNST KANTER (1895-1979) served during World War I and commenced his legal service in Germany in 1925. Kanter joined the army legal service in 1936 and was named Judge-General in the Nazi Wehrmacht in Nazi-occupied Denmark. He served Feb. 1943 to Apr. 1945 during which he handed down 103 death sentences.
