Description:

GERMAN DISTRICT PEASANT LEADER SASH
Red silk sash, 92 in. long, used to designate the office of the District Peasant Leader. One end of the sash bears a sewn-on white disc with a black mobile swastika at the center. Sewn at the opposite end is another white disc, again featuring a black mobile swastika but with a piece of wheat and a sword superimposed over it. Just beneath the disc is silver text reading: ‘Der Kreis-bauernfuhrer' (‘District Peasant Leader'). Some regrettable tears along the edges, still very good. The District Peasant Leader served as a representative of the peasantry to the Reichsnährstand or 'State Food Society'. The organization had legal authority over everyone involved in agricultural production and distribution. Their argument that Germany required an additional 7-8 million hectares of farmland and that many existing farmers would be displaced would influence Hitler's decision to invade the Soviet Union.
