Description:

GERMAN CIVILIAN'S ILLUSTRATED WAR JOURNAL
A fascinating lengthy handwritten journal compiled by an unknown German civilian, extrat illustrated with newspaper photographs and Hoffmann postcard photos of Erwin Rommel, Adolf Galland, and Hermann Goring. The 116pp. 4to. journal, written in diary form, commences on Mar. 28, 1942 and runs until Feb. 10, 1943. Entries generally report on every facet of the war: naval, army, air force, U-boat, etc., these related by theater It reads, in very small part: '...89 tanks have been destroyed by Stalingrad...the fighting south of Lake Ladoga has been successfully completed...heavy fighting at Stalingrad continues...our fortifications have been taken away...Malta has been attacked by the German and Italian air forces...Terror attacks: in the afternoon countless planes flew over northwest Germany...[Japan sank] 4 airplane carriers, 1 battleship, 30 ocean liners, and one destroyer. More than 200 planes were shot own...south of Stalingrad enemy attacks failed...German and Italian troops have evacuated Tobruk...Hanna Reitsch was awarded with the Iron Cross...the traitor Admiral Darlan has smuggled information...one year after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S.A. has confessed to their defeat...enemy attacks around Stalingrad have failed...The bitter battles around Stalingrad continue In the last three days 141 tanks were destroyed...heavy counter attacks...all the enemy's attacks were repelled...Our front was taken by the enemy...In Stalingrad we celebrated together with the Romanian army our big siege...The great battle around Stalingrad has ended. German soldiers stood side by side and fought until the last bullet was gone...' Much more. Most notable is the fact that the writer was apparently entire unaware of the actual war situation, as these reports reflect only the military propaganda being fed to the civilians at the time. The edges of the first and last pages are reinforced with old cell tape, otherwise very good. With full translation.
