Description:

GERMAN CHAPLAIN'S VISOR CAP, STOLE, BELT AND CASE
An excessively rare German army chaplain's grouping including the chaplain's visor cap, religious stole, officer's belt, and carrying case. The visor cap is very special. It is constructed of feldgrau wool with dark green side band, the top of the cap as well as the top and bottom of the sideband being piped in purple. The front of the cap bears the typical silvered Heer eagle pinned above a silver bullion oak leaf wreath and cockade fashioned upon a green backing which is in turn sewn to the cap. The top of this insignia has a separate small brass budded cross with the center blackened. An officer's silver wire chin cord is firmly secured at either end to silver pebbled buttons. At bottom the cap is fitted with a vulkanfibre visor in excellent condition, the underside crosshatched as expected. Within, the piece is fitted with a leather sweatband perforated at front, a yellow rayon lining, and a diamond-shaped celluloid sweat shield covering the Xaver Feneberg maker's label. Very slight perspiration stains to the lining, otherwise this visor cap is in near mint condition. The priest's stole is also present, 88 in. long, 6.25 in. wide at the extreme ends and tapered at the neckline. It bears a an ornately-patterned purple cloth design with patterned silver trim about the edges which is also used to three crosses sewn to the stole. The ends of the piece bear 1.25 in. white cotton fringe. This stole has seen plenty of use in the field, showing wear at the neckline an a one-inch burn at one end. Also present is the priest's brocade parade belt with catch but lacking buckle, the exterior very good but the lining showing some mothing. Finally, include4d is the priest's round case for storage of his visor, 15.5 in. wide and 8 in. deep with leather trim and handle as well as two locking closures. Soiled, with some of the black finish damaged where pulled off from the negligent use of tape, otherwise very good.
