Description:

GERMAN BROADSIDE DESPERATELY TRIES TO LIMIT CZECH RESISTANCE
Excellent content broadside issued by the Government of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, 33.3 x 24.25 in, desperately trying to convince Crech citizens from aligning with the growing resistance movement. Printed in both German and Czech, it reads in large part: '...everyone who cares about the well-being of the Czech people condemns it with indignation when the Czech emigrés support the aspirations and goals of the enemy... these people are well aware of the catastrophe that befell the Czech people two years ago when murderers...carried out the assassination attempt on the Deputy Reich Protector General Heydrich.... Do not support any disruptor of domestic peace and tranquility at home and no agent sent from the field to our country; bring any suspicious elements approaching you immediately to the state authorities...anyone who grants shelter or assistance to the enemy is punished with death....do not let yourself be infatuated by false temptations... Think of your family, your children, of your whole people, whom you have plunged into immeasurable ruin through rash actions, but whom you can help to a better and happier future through your calm, clear and level-headed demeanor and behavior...' Folds, tiny tears at the centerfolds and small chips to the edges, some tape remnants on the verso, else very good. This poster was released as a desperate attempt to limit the rapidly spreading resistance movement, as earlier that month, conspirators of the First Czechoslovak Army under revolutionary Jan Golian began stockpiling money, ammunition and other supplies in military bases throughout Slovakia. This was a direct precursor to the Slovak National Uprising, which would begin four months later.
