The President of the United States died suddenly of a stroke yesterday afternoon in Warm Springs, Georgia, at the age of 63...'. The flyer goes on to give a brief description of Roosevelt's accomplishments. In part: 'He was the only man to be elected President of the United States in four consecutive elections. His fourth term had just begun...Millions of people around the world who have lived under the horrors of war and tyranny will ever forget the name 'Roosevelt', the name of the man who restored them to peace and liberty. Prime Minister Churchill and Marshal Stalin have expressed their deepest sympathy and that of their countries. Harry S. Truman was sworn in as the new President yesterday...The deep connection of the American people to the most honored President America has had since Lincoln was evident to every passerby in the tears he could see in the eyes of others. On the western front, the news spread to the front lines within a few hours...Longtime Roosevelt adversary Senator Robert Taft declared: 'With the passing of Roosevelt, the greatest political figure of our age has passed away. He literally worked himself to death in the service of the American people.' A small photo of Roosevelt is situated at the bottom center between the text. Presented in a 20 x 24.5 in. wooden frame. The newspaper that released this story 'Aachen Nachrichten' was not founded until 1945 and by that time Aachen had already been taken by the Allies since 1944. This timeline explains the expressions of sympathy for the loss of the American president, and the Allied control of the German press.
