Description:

GERMAN ARMY OFFICER'S LION'S HEAD SWORD
German Army Officer's Lion's Head Sword. Bakelite grip has a combination of twisted and straight wire, both grip and wire in near flawless condition. Back strap bears an ornate oak leaf pattern rising to meet a lion's head with ruby eyes, the fittings gilded with 35% of the gilding still intact. Nazi eagle appears on the cross guard, which is also gilded, 90% of the finish remaining. Reverse of the cross guard with space for a monogram has been left blank. Blade is 34 in., the sword 41 in. long overall (in scabbard). Blade is near mint, no defects apparent, the top and bottom edges near perfect. Maker marked 'ROBERT KLAAS' with twin crane logo. The point of the sword has been just barely bumped and this defect is hardly noticeable and easily remedied. The brown leather buffer pad is present and fine. The sword also bears a green and silver Heer portepee supported by a worn green leather hanger. The black painted scabbard has its original paint, no dings or dents, but bears the usual surface scratches, wear and light oxidation, mainly to one side.
