Description:

GERMAN AND AMERICAN RELIC SWORDS (3)
Lot of three various 19th century swords in relic condition. ONE: M1860 U.S. Cavalry sword, 40.5 in. overall, featuring a brass hilt and pommel and full blade at 34 in. long, although heavily corroded with a slightly rounded tip. In this highly oxidized condition this is possibly a ground dug example. Blade shows a faint U.S marking to ricasso, with upper half of a hand carved wooden grip still attached to the tang, between crossguard and pommel. TWO: Early pre-WWI Prussian M1889 sword, 36 in. overall, with nickel hilt featuring a stylized Prussian eagle, and lacking any grip. Polished steel blade, 30.75 in. long, follows the straight thinner 'epee' style format, without fuller, and is marked on the ricasso with 'W.K. & C', logo featuring the early 'king and knight' line-art mascots, indicating a blade made by sword makers Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie, around the time of their initial formation, also marked with the numeral '1' on the tang. Blade shows dark spotting throughout, yet remains relatively bright with no damage or nicks. THREE: Unusual German fencing sword, 36.5 in. overall, with cast iron knuckle-guard with hex locking nut to complete the hilt, grip is wrapped with a lacquer covered thin twisted cord of hemp. A chromed steel bell is added for hand protection mounted with two-rivet discs. Finish to the bell shows much wear and has been hand inscribed into the chrome finish with: 'Rolf Herzog s/1 A.H. Weihnachten 1921', and just above, inscribed with an larger yet indiscernible monogram cipher. Blade, 31 in., shows a partially removed and indiscernible maker mark: [....]'MMER', [BE]'RLIN', and features a deep and sharp two/third's fuller. Blade is dark with oxidation, with a tip that has been reshaped. Lot of three vintage swords in need of some restoration work.
