Description:

GERMAN 13TH CAVALRY DOCUMENT GROUPING
A group of reports totaling 9pp., being a dossier of material regarding the interwar military service of Erich Seedorf, a soldier in the 5th squadron of the 13th Regiment Cavalry. The documents attest to Seedorf's length of service, his quality of service, results of his final exam, discharge in Hannover on Sept. 30, 1935, and more. Seedorf's certificate of fitness for civil service is signed by Knight's Cross winner ERPO FREIHERR VON BODENHAUSEN (1897-1945) Generalleutnant during World War II, awarded the Iron Cross in 1939 for leading his troops in the invasion of Poland; wounded in action during the Russian campaign; assigned to 23rd Panzer Grenadier Brigade at the beginning of July 1942, then gave up command in November 1942. According to various sources: ‘The Pomeranian 12th Panzer Division under the command of Lieutenant General Freiherr von Bodenhausen has proved particularly successful.' At the same time, Bodenhausen was entrusted with the command of the L. Army on 12 April 1945. After the surrender of the corps surrounded in the Courland Pocket, he committed suicide on 9 May 1945 rather than be captured by the Red Army. Dossier contained within the original binder, overall very good.
