Description:

(1894 – 1983) German general who commanded 21. Infanterie-Division and XXVI. Armeekorps, a recipient of the Knight's Cross. Fine content and association A.L.S. as military attached to the German embassy in Japan, 2pp. legal folio, Tokyo, Sep. 24, 1939, to fellow general GERD VON RUNDSTEDT (1875-1953), offering his congratulations on his correspondent's exploits during the invasion of Poland. In part: "Yesterday I learned through the final report des O.K.W. that you Herr Generaloberst lead one of two German Army Groups, the deciding one, to victory in Poland!... I probably don't have to assure you how much I would have liked to be there. Please accept my congratulations and best wishes for future successes. Unfortunately, the joy was overshadowed by the news of the death of General v. Fritsch. You know that I was very close to this great man for many years, when I was an officer in his department... The loss experienced by Prince Oskar, also touched me. Certainly many 'good comrades' will enter the 'great Army'. I'm not in the mood to report from Japan. We do what we can to fulfill our duty in the not always easy propaganda war and can state that we successfully reclaimed the sympathies of this country, despite the crisis of trust after the Russia pact. With obedient greetings and wishes..." He signs boldly at the conclusion in black ink. Shows folds, toned at the edges, else very good.
