741. GEORGIA SLAVE BILL OF SALE Manuscript D.S., 1p. legal folio, Wilkes County, Ga., May 7, 1803 in which the Sheriff of Wilkes County attests to the details of a slave transaction. Reads in most part: "Know all men by these presents that I William Johnson Sheriff of Wilkes County have leaned[?] on a Negro man named Simon amongst others... the property of Thomas C. Russell...and having advertised the said Negroes...for Sale on the first Tuesday in March...when and where Joseph Anthony became the highest bidder to whom the said Negro Simon was Knock[e]d. of as on the above mention a negroe for the same (in the Agrigate[sic]) of fifteen hundred Dollars I have therefore Bargain[e]d. Sold and Deliver[e]d. the said negro Man Simon to the said Joseph Anthony..." Moderate toning, a few pin holes and marginal chips, otherwise very good. $100-150
