Description:

GEORGI K. ZHUKOV
(1896 - 1974) Soviet Field Marshal, perhaps the greatest general of World War II, he survived crushing poverty and Stalin's purges to command the Russian armies at the monumental battles of Moscow and Kursk, and in the taking of Berlin. A most important document, the galley proofs of an article written by Zhukov describing the defense of Moscow, with dozens of Zhukov's hand-written additions, corrections and deletions made to the text prior to its publication. Zhukov's article, 9pp. folio, [Moscow, ca. 1966] describes in detail his decision to attack German forces just outside Moscow, versus undertaking a house-to-house defense of the Soviet capitol. The general also describes the lack of food and equipment plaguing the Germans, which led to his decision to bring the battle to the enemy. Ultimately this text was used in the production of his definitive memoirs, The Memoirs of Marshal G. Zhukov. Very good.
