Description:

GEORGI K. ZHUKOV (1896 - 1974) Soviet Field Marshall, perhaps the greatest general of World War II, he survived crushing poverty and Stalin's purges to command the Russian armies at the monumental battles of Moscow and Kursk, and in the taking of Berlin. D.S. in Russian, with official stamp "Zhukov", 4pp., 4to., n.p. [USSR], Jan. 28, 1963, military orders for, in part, "advanced training courses" with a decision approving such orders signed by Zhukov. 1963 proved a tumultuous year for both the Soviet leadership and Zhukov personally. Nikita Khrushchev, reeling from a disastrous handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis, feared a Zhukov coup and therefore had Zhukov relieved of command and expelled from the Central Committee. Khrushchev was deposed by a Brezhnev-led coalition; Brezhnev restored Zhukov to his post in 1964. Fine condition, slight uneven toning, slight crease and small binding holes near center fold .
