Description:

(1732 - 1799) First President of the United States and commander of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Significant partly-printed D.S. "G. Washington", 2pp. 8" x 13 1/4", "Headquarters" [n.p.], June 89, 1783, a discharge: "...These art to CERTIFY that the Bearer hereof Abraham v. Dusen Corporal in the first New York Regiment, having faithfully served the United States seven years and six months...is hereby DISCHARGED from the American Army..." Co-signed by JONATHAN TRUMBULL, JR. (1740-1809) as Washington's aide and secretary, and by Lt. Colonel CORNELIUS VAN WYCK. Van Duzen endorses and signs the verso. A stain in one corner and minor insect loss at two margins, else very good. Abraham van Duzen (alt. spellings "Deusen" and "Dusen" was a direct descendant of Abraham Pietersen van Deursen (1607–1670), a Dutch immigrant who settled in New Amsterdam and become one of the Council of 12 that was the first representative democracy in the Dutch colony. His namesake here, having spent over seven years fighting for his country, would have very likely been present with the 1st New York in the invasion of Canada, the Battle of Valcour Island, the Battle of Saratoga, the Battle of Monmouth, the Sullivan Expedition, and the Battle of Yorktown.

Shipments are sent via USPS Priority, USPS International Priority, DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
