GEORGE W. MORGAN
(1820-1893) Union Brigadier General, commanding the XIII corps under Sherman during the Vicksburg campaign, captured Fort Hindman, later a member of congress. Manuscript D.S. twice as prewar U.S. Consul to Marseille, 3pp. legal folio, Marseille, July 27, 1857, certifying that a cargo of ‘Anis Oil' was successfully delivered from New York to Marseille aboard the bark ‘Le Cocq'. The first page contains a statement from the consignee of the cargo, signed by him at the conclusion, followed by a statement by the master and mate of the bark in question, signed by them and countersigned by Morgan, on the second page. Finally, Morgan attests that all of the above information is accurate, and signs on the final page, adding is title ‘U. S. Consul' beneath both of his signatures. Shows folds overall, faintly toned, otherwise in very good to fine condition.
