GEORGE SYKES
(1822 - 1880) Union major general who led a division at Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville. He commanded the V corps at Gettysburg. Fine A.E.S. on the verso of a Special Requisition for supplies for the Ambulance Corps including opium, liquor and ammonia, 2pp. legal folio, [n.p.], Nov. 6, 1863. Penned during his nearly four-month Mine Run Campaign, when the Ambulance Corps badly needed to replenish their depleted stock. In full: "Approved Geo Sykes Mil Comdg". Expertly inlaid, very good condition.
