565. GEORGE III (1738-1820) King of England during the American Revolution, it was his policies of taxation and repression that led to the uprisings in the Colonies. Handsome manuscript D.S. "George R" as King, in English, Latin and French, 6pp., folio, "Our Court at St. James's" May 19, 1808. With a very bold, somewhat spidery signature as his blindness worsened, and embossed red-wax and white-paper Royal Seal at head below signature. Countersigned by future Prime Minister GEORGE CANNING as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Written to the Chancellor of Great Britain, John, Lord Eldon, authorizing him to affix the Great Seal of Great Britain to "an Instrument bearing date with these presents (a Copy whereof is hereunto annexed) containing Our Ratification of a Secret and Separate Article to the Treaty concluded between Us and Our Good Brother The King of the Two Sicilies [Ferdinand I]...". The concluding four pages of the document are penned in Latin and French and contain the full particulars of the "Secret & Separate Article to the Treaty between His Majesty & the King of the Two Sicilies". Minor soiling with light age-toning, otherwise in very good condition. $700 - 900
