994. GEORGE III (1738-1820) King of England during the American Revolution, it was his policies of taxation and repression that led to the uprisings in the Colonies. Handsome and historic manuscript D.S. "George R" as King, 5pp., folio St. James's, Sept. 3, 1807, countersigned by future Prime Minister "George Canning" as Foreign Secretary, to the Chancellor of Great Britain, John, Lord Eldon authorizing him to affix the Great Seal of Great Britain to "an Instrument bearing date with these Presents (a Copy whereof is hereunto annexed) containing Our Power to Our Trusty and Wellbeloved Anthony Merry Esquire, authorizing and empowering him to treat and agree with the Minister or Ministers of Our Good Brother The King of Denmark, upon all such matters and things as in Our said Instrument of Full Power are contained and expressed; And for so doing this shall be Your Warrant....". Written the year that the Danish fleet was seized by the English. Very good condition. $500 - 600
