Description:

GEORGE III Rare A.L.S. "George R" 1p., 8vo., London, May 17 [n.y.], to Mr. Ellis, discussing an illness which left him unable to deal with public riots sparked over tariff decisions. In part: "...A severe cold and pain in my head prevented me from going to town this day... The whole directions I have to give are that you should assist the Civil Magistrates, but at the same time recommend temper and mildness to the Officers on this unpleasant Service...".This document represents possible evidence of early porphyria symptoms, a condition many historians suspect that George III may have suffered, and a source for both his vision and psychological problems. Light uneven toning, inlaid, overall very good.
