(1683 - 1760) King of England and military leader whose forces were succesful in India, Canada and at sea. AN APPOINTMENT TO THE NEW YORK COUNCIL FOR THE OWNER OF "LIBERTY ISLAND" Fine content manuscript D.S. "George R" as King, 1p. with integral address leaf addressed to New York Governor William Cosby, "Court at St. James", May 22, 1733. The king appoints Henry Lane to serve upon the "...Council of Our Province of New York in the room of Robert Walters Esq''r deceased...And so we bid you Farewell..." Co-signed by Prime Minister THOMAS PELHAM-HOLMES (1693-1768). A clean, repaired tear affects the first two letters of the king''s signature, folds with some toning thereat, overall very good. Double-matted. Henry Lane, a prosperous merchant and New York and New Jersey landowner, would also purchase Bedloe''s Island... now the home of the Statue of Liberty.
