Description:

George I 1660-1727. King of England and the first of the house of Hanover who succeeded Queen Anne. His early years were disturbed by Jacobite plots against him, but he strengthened his hand following theconclusion of the Triple Alliance with France and Holland. Manuscript L.S. "Loving cousin, George R." as King, 2pp folio [London], january 1725 to his cousin Sophie Albertine Duchess of Saxony in Hildburghausen, in German. George warmly expresses his best wishes to the lady for the New Year, adding: "... also wish Your Grace the best of health and pleasure on into the oldest age and remain willing and eager to render to yourself pleasant demonistrations of friendship..."Damp stain in blank left margin causing one chip and two minor tape repairs, none affecting text, otherwise very good.
