Description:

GEORGE D. JOHNSTON
(b. 1832) Confederate brigadier general who led the 25th Alabama for much of the war. At Atlanta, he led a charge which forced the enemy's lines, capturing more men than he led. Trophies taken from the enemy included two flags and 350 stand of arms. Three hours after being advised of his promotion, a bullet fractured his leg bone, but, supporting the wounded limb in his bridle rein, he continued in command of his brigade. Very rare signature "Geo. D. Johnston" boldly penned on a small white card. Fine.
