(1880-1959) American general and statesman, Roosevelt's Army Chief of Staff during World War II and author of the Marshall Plan which sustained eastern Europe after the war. ON D-DAY, MARSHALL THANKS A MAN FOR HIS THOUGHTS ON THE DEATH OF MARSHALL'S SON, KILLED BY SNIPER FIRE Fine content T.L.S. on his War Department, Chief of Staff letterhead, 1p. 8vo....the day of the Allied landings on Normandy. He writes to Carl Brandt in New York, in part: "Mrs. Marshall asked me to thank you for your kind note of sympathy. She appreciates your thought of her..." Paperclip stains at top, a tiny corner chip, else very good. With transmittal envelope. According to a 2004 letter from the George C. Marshall Foundation (included), on May 29, 1944 Lt. Allen T. Brown, Marshall's stepson, was killed by a German sniper while observing the front from the turret of his tank. Marshall was crushed, his aide recalling his grief for "the apple of his eye." CARL BRANDT (1888-1957) was a literary agent in New York who counted Marshall among his clients.

International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
