GEORGE A. TRENHOLM
(1806 - 1876) Confederate Secretary of the Treasury, active in blockade running in the early part of the war, captured by Union soldiers. Partly-printed D.S. 2pp. legal folio, Charleston, Jan. 1, 1868, a South Carolina merchant's bond for $64.40 in which "Theodore D. Wagner and William L. Trenholm...are held and firmly bonded...under an agreement...in behalf of John Fraser and Company...". Signed on both recto and verso, very good, with James Walsman signing on verso as guarantor. Walsman was an original member of the Liverpool agency of Fraser, Trenholm & Co. during the Civil War. Very good condition.
