GEN. KENNETH STRONG'S MAP OF THE GERMAN ORDER OF BATTLE
An important historical map showing the desperate condition of German forces as of April 7, 1945, from the personal files of Gen. KENNETH STRONG. The 25.5 x 34 in. map is titled: 'Enemy Order of Battle Western Front As Known at 0900 7 April 1945' and is marked 'SECRET' at the top. It offers a wealth of information. Almost all of western Europe is shown, from Denmark south to Zurich and west to Antwerp. The map shows the encircled Ruhr Pocket and includes the XII SS Corps which would be destroyed there, 'Unlocated Staffs of Smashed Divisions From Army Groups B & G', the location of about two dozen paratroop and other military units, and notes indicating that certain other units could not be located. Notes also indicate that the map was prepared by the G-2 Section of SHAEF. In fine condition. Major-General Sir Kenneth Strong KBE (1900–1982) was a senior officer of the British Army who rose to become Director General of Intelligence. He attended the Italian peace negotiations and in May 1944 he joined Eisenhower's Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) Strong played a leading part in the negotiations for the unconditional surrender of Germany in 1945.
