Description:

GEN. FRANZ HALDER'S MAP OF THE AFTERMATH OF THE LENINGRAD-NOVGOROD OFFENSIVE
Original hand-drawn situation map from the personal files of German Gen. FRANZ HALDER (1884–1972) documenting the aftermath of the Leningrad-Novgorod offensive as of March 31, 1942. The map was executed using india ink on coated map paper, 1p. 4to. in size, the drawing titled: 'Skizze 3 Der 31.3.42' ('Sketch 3 31.3.42'). The map is drawn on a scale of 1:100,000 with a 0–6 km bar. Terrain includes the Tigoda marsh sector east of Leningrad with villages strung along the main track/river labeled (spellings as on the sheet): Dobroye, Korodinya, Milayevka, Idvino, Lupol, Molodi; to the north Zanino; to the east Dubovik and Lipovik; and Malinovka within the swamp belt. German formations include I.R. 185 and two battalions of I./100 along the west-side line and in the marsh approaches; company strong points are shown as small rectangles. 269. I.D. ('Kondoya') appears to the northwest; 27. I.D. covering the Dubovik–Lipovik line to the east. Short arrows around Korodinya–Milayevka and toward the marsh tracks show local attacks or reliefs, brackets and checks indicate blocking positions and regimental boundaries, dotted shading marks the swamp areas that constrain movement. A day-of-battle situation sketch for 31 March 1944 showing German infantry—centered on Infantry Regiment 185 with I./100—conducting local counterattacks and repositioning along the Tigoda marsh corridor, holding the west-side village line and aligning with neighboring 269th Infantry Division (NW) and 27th Inf Division (E). It follows directly after 30 March, documenting how positions were consolidated and where small pushes occurred as the front adjusted during the withdrawal. The heavy swamp belt explains why seemingly minor hamlets and causeways became key strongholds, detail rarely visible on printed operational maps. These actions belong to the Leningrad–Novgorod strategic offensive's aftermath and the German retreat toward the Panther defensive line in the Baltic sector. A contemporaneous battlefield map as the Germans stabilized and covered their pull-back during the Leningrad–Novgorod campaign. Fine condition.
