Description:

GEN. FRANZ HALDER'S BATTLE MAP OF THE LENINGRAD-NOVGOROD OFFENSIVE
Original hand-drawn situation map from the personal files of German Gen. FRANZ HALDER (1884–1972) documenting the Leningrad-Novgorod offensive, specifically events on March 30, 1942. The map was executed using india ink on coated map paper, 1p. 4to. in size, the drawing titled: 'Skizze 2 Verlauf 30.3.42' ('Course of events 30.3.42'). The map is drawn on a scale of 1:100,000 with a 0–6 km bar. Terrain includes the Tigoda sector east of Leningrad, with marsh and woodland dominating the center, Molodi (southwest), Lupol, Milayevka, Korodinya, Iskrye along the west-side route; Zecino to the north; Dubovik and Lipovik to the east; and several hamlets/strongpoints around Malinovka inside the swamp belt. German units include regimental/battalion groups marked 'I.R. 185,' 'I./100,' '339.' and their arrows show advances and local attacks through the swamp and along the west-side road. Adjacent divisions '269. I.D.' to the northwest (around Kondoya), and '27. I.D' cover the Dubovik–Lipovik sector to the east. A day-of-battle sketch for 30 March 1944 showing German infantry groups (centered on IR 185 with attached battalions I./100 and 339) fighting through the Tigoda marsh corridor, pushing from the southwest toward Zenino and the Dubovik–Lipovik line, while neighboring 269th Infantry Division and 27th Inf Division hold the flanks. Fine condition. This important map displays how German units tried to delay and channel Soviet forces along the Tigoda after the winter breakthroughs. The swamp and sparse tracks demonstrate how minor hamlets and fords became key strong points—detail usually lost in small-scale printed maps, all part of the broader Leningrad–Novgorod strategic offensive aftermath (early 1944) and the German retreat toward the Panther Line in the Baltic sector. This sketch records local actions on 30 March 1944 as Army Group North tried to stabilize a line east of the Luga/Lovat–Narva barrier while falling back through the Tigoda area. A rare, contemporaneous battle map.
