Description:

GEN. FRANZ HALDER'S COMPARATIVE OPERATIONAL CHARTS OF THE WAR ON THE EASTERN FRONT
An interesting set of 27 vintage photostat copies originating from the personal files of German General FRANZ HALDER (1884-1972), Chief of Staff of the German ‘Oberkommando des Heeres' (OKH), or Army High Command, from 1938 until his removal in 1942. These photostats, each 11.75 x 17 in., reproduce month-by-month operational charts in German comparing the activities of Wehrmacht forces to those of Soviet Red Army defenders on the Eastern Front, beginning in June 1941 with, Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the Soviet Union, and continuing through August of 1943, capturing all of the notable offensives and engagements launched by the Wehrmacht in that period. These include, in very small part: the Battle of Smolensk (July 1941); the fall of Kiev (September 1941); the fall of Odessa (October 1941); the first phases of the Battle of Stalingrad (July-Oct 1942); and the start of the Novorossiysk offensive (Aug-Sep 1942); and the outset of Operation Citadel against the Kursk salient (July 1943). Notably, failures such as the final surrender of German forces at Stalingrad in February of 1943 are excluded. Each chart is divided by the Wehrmacht army groups involved, which evolve as they are reorganized. Each chart shows folds and wear to the edges, otherwise in very good overall condition.
