Description:

GEN. BERNHARD RAMCKE TRAVEL DESK
BERNHARD RAMCKE (1889–1968) German Luftwaffe general and a recipient of the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds. After leading troops in the invasion of Crete, Ramcke fought in North Africa, Russian and in France, surrendering when Brest was captured. A great relic, General Ramcke's personal traveling writing portfolio and implements, 27" wide (fully opened, 9 1/2" tall. The tablet bears dark green pebbled finish covers, the front of which bears a Luftwaffe eagle emblem and: "GENERAL DER FALLSCHIRMJAGER BERNHARD RAMCKE" embossed in gold with cold trim present on both sides of the cover. Within, the portfolio presents a felt-covered panel, as well as two other white paper writing surfaces. A small expanding file with three pockets is covered in green moire silk. Eight items are held at the center beneath ribbed leather straps, including red sealing wax, various ivory finishing and sealing tools, a brass-headed seal stamp, and a small quantity of pen quills. There is a slight bitty of fraying to the silk, else very good. Likely a presentation gift to the paratroop general.
