GEN. ROBERT C. RICHARDSON, JR. GOLD SILK DRESS BELT AND JAPANESE AIGUILLETTE
Gold silk dress belt worn by Gen. Robert C. Richardson, Jr. (1882-1954). Belt was to be worn with full dress uniform, and is 36 in. long x 2.75 in. wide, bearing two fringed tassels suspended at front. The belt, most likely pre-war, was stored by Richardson in tissue paper with brown paper wrapper showing note in his hand (included): 'Gold Silk Belt for Full Dress Blue uniform - Do Not Open - 4/7/43'. U.S. Army Officer and veteran of the 1904 Philippine insurrection, World War I, and World War II, he commanded the U.S. Army, Pacific (Hawaiian Department) during the height of World War II in 1943, and until his retirement in 1946. During that time he was also the military governor of Hawaii (which was at that time still a U.S. Territory) and Commanding General of U.S. Army Forces in the Pacific Ocean Areas. SOLD WITH: a World War II Japanese uniform aiguillette cord in purple with the family crest metal insignia applied to the center. Very good.
