GARY COOPER
(1901 - 1961) American film star and Academy Award winner, most remembered for his roles as a cowboy and as Lou Gehrig in The Pride of the Yankees. Superb, rare typed D.S. "Gary Cooper", 14pp. 4to., Los Angeles, Dec. 14, 1945, being Cooper's contract to play the lead in the Warner Brothers film, Cloak and Dagger. The contract stipulates that the film is to be directed by Fritz Lang, that Cooper will receive $200,000 for his 12 weeks of service with overtime at $16,666/week, plus 10% of the gross in excess of $2 million, plus many other clauses typically found in such contracts issued to top-ranked stars. Cooper boldly signs at conclusion, as does Warner Bros. president JACK WARNER and the president of United States Pictures, Inc. Very good condition. In the film, Cooper stars as Alvah Jasper, a shy and retiring physics professor at a Midwestern university. When government agents press Jasper into joining them in an effort to curtail the Nazis' efforts to attain atomic secrets, his life takes a dramatic turn. Along the way, romance grows between Jasper and a beautiful Italian resistance fighter, Gina. The movie tackled some of Fritz Lang's favorite motifs, including espionage, anti-Nazi activity, and psychological warfare.
