GALUSHA PENNYPACKER
(1844-1916) Union brigadier general who served with distinction at Charleston, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, and Fort Fisher where his actions won him a Medal of Honor. Wounded several times, he was just 20 years old when he received his promotion to general making him the youngest in the history of the United States Army. Good association A.L.S., 1p. 4to., Norfolk, August 28, 1865, 'to all whom it may concern' commending a fellow officer for his service. In part: 'I have the honor to commend to the kind consideration of those with whom he may meet, Captain J. Henry Reeve...as an officer [he] is so credible to himself that he needs no further encomium. While in command of his regiment at the taking of Fort Fisher...he was wounded so severely as to render necessary amputation of one of his limbs. His services on behalf of his country entitle him to the gratitude and countenance of its patriotic citizens...' Signed at the conclusion with rank of brigadier general. Accompanied by a hand addressed envelope. Fine condition.

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
