Description:

FRITZ WEITZEL (1904-1940) SS ideologue and SS-High Leader and Police Leader in Norway, killed in a aerial attack. Rare, fine association partly-printed D.S., 2pp. 4to., Detmold, Sep. 11, 1935, being a service evaluation of SS-Haupsturmfuhrer ALFRED BUCHS. Buchs' personal details are completed at the top of the first page. There follows a hand-written evaluation by his immediate superior, an SS-Standartenfuhrer Jhanak[?] who commands the 72.SS-Standarte. Beneath that detailed evaluation, SS-Standartenfuhrer GUNTHER CLAASEN adds his opinion from Dortmunf on Sep. 20, noting that Buchs keeps to himself a bit but is otherwise acceptable. At bottom, Weitzel, in Dusseldorf on Sep. 30, states that although he does not know Buchs well, the soldier makes a 'soft, withdrawn impression' which should be remedied as he grows older. GUNTHER CLAASEN (1888-1946) would hold various administrative positions in the SS until his appointment as police president of Warsaw until mid-October 1941. In addition, he was the leader of two SS Totenkopf standards and killed himself when facing extradition to Poland. As for the meek Walter Buchs, his fate is unknown.
