(1764-1815) French general and Marshal of the Empire. A friend of Danton, he took part in the 13 Vendemiaire during the French Revolution as well the Italian Campaign in the Napoleonic Wars. Manuscript L.S. ‘Brune' 1p. legal folio, [n.p.], July 2, 1792, to Pierre de Lajard, Minister of France. In part: ‘…In executing the orders which I received from you, I have the honor of [passing on to you] the letter from M. [Joseph] Servan...to apprise you of the situation of the second battalion of the Seine and Oise…So no doubts remain, Sir, that I should be refunded my postage costs etc. as exact fairness requires. I have everything to presume…that your office has given me orders for my Prefecture, to be there so that I can rejoin my garrison, which I will have the honor of doing so with this confidence…'.
