FRENCH MINISTER REQUESTS HELP FINDING A DESERTER
Good content L.S. "Cassan the French Vice Consul General, legal folio, Philadelphia, Feb. 18, 1794 in French to Governor Thomas Mifflin of Pennsylvania forwarding the name of seamen, "...having been part of the crew of the French barge LaVille... who deserted from its fleet eight days ago; I...ask you to not make the order to arrest them, in the hopes that they will return...but if it persists, I beg you, under the 9th article of the Consular Convention between France and the United States, to...give the orders for their search and arrest..." Accompanied by a manuscript D.S. "L. Ruautz[?]" listing the names of nine sailors who had deserted the ship. Usual folds, very lightly toned at extreme margins, else very good condition.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Customer's who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
