Description:

FRENCH MARSHALS AND STATESMEN
Fine lot of five signed items in various formats by some of the most important French Statesmen and Marshalls of the 19th century, includes: JEAN-BATISTE JOURDAN, scarce D.S., 1p., folio, June 15, 1814, a 15th Military Division transmittal report listing troop strength and various regiments. At the time this document was executed, Jourdan was supposedly recalled to France and retired from the service due to his massive defeat at Vitoria; LOUIS BLANC, fine A.Ms.S., 1p., 4to., a testimonial saluting " the people" and the public, an ode to the working class, with a fine steel engraving c. 1850; FRANCOIS-PIERRE GUIZOT, A.L.S., 1p., 12mo., Sept. 1, 1826, on Minister of Interior letterhead, sending warm greetings to an old political constituent; PHILLIPE HENRI, MARQUIS DE SEGUR, D.S., 1p., folio, Versailles, Oct. 7, 1781, most likely signed as Minister of War, informing the recipient that he is aware of the fact that he has served in the military with distinction and LOUIS VAUFRELAND, D.S., 1p., folio, Paris, Feb. 21, 1810, as Commandant of the Legion d' Honneur, untranslated, but apparently bestowing honors on a soldier who distinguished himself in battle. Overall, very good to fine condition, five pieces.
