Description:

FRENCH LABOR DEPORTEES' FLAG
Ornate double-sided rayon French flag assembled in three pieces, 23" x 23" with gold fringe, bearing printed gilt lettering (translated): "LABOR DEPORTEES CONFOLENS SECTION". The flag is attached to a wood pole topped with an ornamental brass spearhead and also bears a tricolor gold-fringed ribbon and bow. The flag bears some large stains at bottom and the ribbon has faded a bit, yet still it remains an appealing item. This flag was undoubtedly displayed at an area in which forced labor deportees were sorted prior to transport to Germany. Of course, its attractiveness and quality were intended to give a false sense of security to those headed for work camps and factories in the Third Reich.
