Very rare French-language handbill issued almost immediately after the Allied landing in Normandy on June 6, 1944, 1p. 5.25 x 8.25 in., printed in Honfleur, a few miles from the landing beaches, southwest of Le Havre. The notice is addressed to 'THE FRENCH' and reads in part: 'The Hour of Liberation has Come! We, your British allies, who, over four years, and who have anguished at the oppression of France, and who have admired your heroic resistance, have achieved with you the defeat of the common enemy...Stay at home at night...' It further urges protection and carrying of identity cards, asks that the population stay off the roads, and urges people not to examine any unexploded munitions. It concludes: 'BE CALM! Long live France!' Fine. SOLD WITH: a post-1947 postcard sold to raise funds for a monument to Gen. Philippe Leclerc.
