Description:

FRENCH CUIRASS
Impressive yet re-assembled French cuirass from the 'July Monarchy' period (1830-1838), consisting of a steel and brass front plate attached via two chain shoulder straps to a purely steel backplate. The breast plate is marked with May 1833 Klingenthal manufacture dates with badly-faded unit markings, appearing to read '9T 9L No. 632'. The back plate bears non-matching markings, bearing an 1831 Klingenthal marking next to the unit markings '2T 1L No. 1562'. The front is fitted with an eagle and sunburst plate, attached with washers and one wing nut and one hex nut (likely added as a replacement for an original wing nut). The interior of the front plate is also marked '532 C'. The exterior of the left armpit area is stamped '198' on the front plate and '253' on the back plate. The manufacture and unit markings of the backplate appears to have been cleaned, some tarnish to the exterior with light darkening and partial rust in the interior. Possibly re-assembled during the period, though since this certainly cannot be proven by us, the lot is sold as is. Estimated accordingly.

Shipping

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
