FREDERICK NORTH
(1732 - 1792) Lord North, English Prime Minister whose support of the stamp tax and tea duty led to open revolt and revolution in the American colonies. Good content and association L.S. "North" as Prime Minister, 1p. 4to., "Downing Street" [London], Nov. 26, 1773 to Robert Adam (1728–1792), British neoclassical architect and interior designer, then a member of Parliament. In part: "...The meeting of Parliament being fixed for the 13th of January next, when matters of great consequence are expected to come under the consideration of the House of Commons; I hope you will excuse the liberty I take in troubling you...to request your attendance...". With integral address leaf, very good. When Parliament met in 1774, they passed what the Americans came to call the "Intolerable Acts", a series of punitive laws following the Boston Tea Party. The acts took away Massachusetts'' self-government and historic rights, and served as key triggers in the outbreak of the American Revolution in 1775.
