1722. FRED WARING (1900-1984) Musician, bandleader, radio and TV personality, with his band The Pennsylvanians he was one of the first to make sound recordings, including hits such as "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" and "White Christmas," also helped to invent and market the electric blender in the 1930s. 78rpm LP record, likely a test pressing with hand-affixed paper center label signed and inscribed to lyricist Johnny Mercer in blue-black fountain pen: "Hey Johnny: - Thanks for the use of your wonderful song! Fred Waring". The song in question is Mercer's "Blues in the Night", otherwise known as "My Mama Done Told Me", recorded by Waring for Decca in 1942. Disc has been affixed to another 78 due to crack. Center label bears tiny chips and adhesive stains not affecting inscription. Sold with a copy of the sheet music for "My Regular Gal", published 1927, featuring a cover photo of Waring and The Pennsylvanians. $40-60
