Description:

FRED M. VINSON
(1890 - 1953) Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (1946-53) and Secretary of the Treasury. T.L.S. as Chief Justice on his official letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, Feb. 17, 1953, to an American history class in Texas. In part: ‘…In my view, the study of American history, and history in general, is not only interesting and stimulating but it is a necessity to those who meet the grave issues of today and tomorrow. It always thrills me to contemplate the creation of our Government, including the pre-Constitution days, and the growth of our country in power and influence. The forging of the Constitution was one of the greatest achievements for freedom-loving people in the history of the world. Under it, we have strength and stature that could never have been conceived by the founders…' Unevenly toned and lightly stained, otherwise very good.
