FRANKLIN PIERCE
(1804 - 1869) Fourteenth President of the United States who initiated the Gadsden Purchase, opening up the Northwest for settlement. Rare partly-printed D.S. "Franklin Pierce" as President, 1p folio on vellum, Washington, Feb. 16, 1855, the appointment of William F. Hord to serve as Assistant Surgeon in the Navy, boldly signed at bottom and co-signed by Secretary of the Navy JOHN C. DOBBIN. Document somewhat cockled, trimmed at top, else boldly signed and very good. Pierce naval appointments are scarce; those appointing Navy surgeons are rare.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Customer's who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
