FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT
(1882 - 1945) Thirty-second President of the United States who instituted the "New Deal" programs and who led the United States through most of World War II. A pair of T.L.S. as Assistant Secretary of the Navy, 1p. 4to. each. The first, dated Jan. 3, 1914, is written to George W. Sisson, and reads, in part: "...I am truly sorry but find the Secretary of the Navy wants me to be here...I must give up my intention of attending the meeting of the Agricultural Society...I had particularly looked forward to being there...". Significant stain just about signature, pen docket at top, overall just good condition. Along with a second T.L.S. dated Feb. 16, 1918, to Gen. Enoch H. Crowder, in part: "...I am forwarding herewith a letter received from a friend of mine in Poughkeepsie...relative to the matter of discharge from military service of Issace M. Deuel...". Staple hole at top right, receiving stamp under signature, overall very good. Two pieces.
