Description:

FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT
(1882 - 1945) Thirty-second President of the United States who instituted the "New Deal" programs and who led the United States through most of World War II. Fascinating content T.L.S. "Franklin D. Roosevelt" as Vice President of the Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland on official letterhead, 1p., 4to, New York City, n.d., to a young lawyer from Sterling CO, Norris C. Bakke. In response to Mr. Bakke's request for help finding legal employment in New York City, Roosevelt advises, in part: "...I know of no opening here in New York for a lawyer of your professional qualifications, but as you know... while there are many lawyers, a man well qualified always has a chance. I should think the opportunities in the West would be equally as good as here, and since you are on the ground there I expect it would be better to try to stick it out a little longer...". An interesting example of "networking" in an already crowded field, and what turned out to be good advice from FDR: Norris C. Bakke finished his legal career in Colorado, retiring as Chief Justice as the Supreme Court of Colorado. Uneven toning on bottom left slightly affecting signature, some browning at the top edge, minor folds, else very good.
