Description:

FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT ROOSEVELT, WITH HIS "DOUBLE CHIN", INSCRIBES A HUGE PHOTOGRAPH TO HIS PRESS SECRETARY Enormous color signed photograph of Roosevelt, likely as president, and probably the largest such example ever offered. The image measures 14" x 17 ¾", and that is only what is visible through the mat! Roosevelt is shown in a close-up, seated and smiling in the back seat of a car. He humorously inscribes the photo in black ink at lower-right: "This, including the double chin, to Bill Hassett, from Franklin D. Roosevelt". William D. Hassett (1880-1965) was originally a reporter with the Washington Post. He began his government career in 1933 with the National Recovery Administration moving in 1935 to the White House appointed him Secretary to the President. Hassett also served occasionally as White House press secretary, and it was he who announced the Roosevelt's death in Warm Springs. He was appointed Secretary to President Harry S. Truman on April 16, 1945, and held this post until his retirement in 1952.
