Description:

FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT SOCIAL SECURITY BROADSIDE
FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (1882 - 1945) Thirty-second President of the United States who instituted the "New Deal" programs and who led the United States through most of World War II. An original broadside from the Social Security Board during the Roosevelt administration, measuring 12" x 18". The headline declares: "NOTICE Deductions from Pay Start Jan.1". The broadside continues to spread the news: "...Beginning Jan. 1, 1937, your employer will be compelled by law to deduct a certain amount from your wages every payday. This is in compliance with the terms of the Social Security Ace signed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Aug. 14, 1935. The deduction begins with 1%, and increases until it reaches 3%...The combined taxes may total 9% of the whole payroll...This is NOT a voluntary plan. Your employer MUST make this deduction...". The Social Security Act was born of the financial distress of a large amount of older Americans who were unemployed after the Depression, and created a fund to provide old-age pensions that still exists this day. Evenly toned, very good.
