Description:

FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT SEEKS EXTRADITION OF A MURDERER
FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (1882 - 1945) Thirty-second President of the United States who instituted the 'New Deal' programs and who led the United States through most of World War II. Exceptionally rare and unusual partly-printed D.S. as President, 10.5 x 16 in., Washington, Oct. 27, 1933 in which Roosevelt advises John R. Machlik and Frank G. Shemanske, presumably U.S. Marshals, that he has received approval from Canadian authorities for the two men to proceed to Canada and to arrest fugitive 'Albert Viggers', wanted for murder in the State of Michigan, and return him to that state for prosecution. Co-signed by Secretary of State CORDELL HULL, with both signatures bold and complete with paper seal. Folds, else very good. Four months later, Viggers would be sentenced to life for first degree murder, but was paroled and deported to Canada in 1948.
