FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT
(1882 - 1945) Thirty-second President of the United States who instituted the "New Deal" programs and who led the United States through most of World War II. Lengthy, good content T.L.S. as Governor, 3pp. 4to., Albany, Mar. 20, 1929, to Ralph O. Brewster, Governor of Maine. In very small part: "...I have your letter...In New York State the Labor Department, acting without any specific direction to that effect, does compile and publish monthly information as to employment and payrolls, from which is computed a series of month index numbers showing the trend of employment...". He continues with much information about the Bureau of Labor Statistics' formation and function, ending with: "...There is a standing committee of the American Statistical Association entitled the Committee on Governmental Labor Statistics...[it] is constantly in touch with the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics...". Boldly signed and very good.
