(1912-1988) Third United States Secretary of the Army, CEO of General Dynamics Corporation, and first chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Great content T.L.S. on official Department of the Army letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington D.C., Nov. 30, 1950, expressing his gratitude to Major Gen. CLARENCE R. HUEBNER upon Huebner's retirement. He writes in part:"... the effective manner in which you, as Deputy Commander-in-Chief and Chief of Staff for the European Command and as Commanding General of Army Forces in Europe, have built our forces there into a first-class fighting team... has particularly impressed me. I need not tell you that the presence of such highly trained American troops in Europe has been a major factor in strengthening our policies and posture before the Europeans and before the world". Fine condition. CLARENCE R. HUEBNER (1888-1972) was an American general who commanded the 1st Infantry Division, popularly known as the "Big Red One", in early August of 1943. He commanded the division during the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944, where it was the first force to face the Germans on Omaha Beach, and he joined his men on the beach the same day.
